LGBT DISCRIMINATION ENDS AT PRINCIPIA
In a surprise move, the Principia College Board of Trustees released a statement November 18, ending its discriminatory policy against openly LGBT applicants. Openly LGBT applicants will no longer be singled out for discrimination in applying to the College. This also applies to the Upper and Lower schools at the St.Louis campus. Openly LGBT applicants for faculty and non-teaching positions will also not face discrimination based on sexual orientation. The new policy also “recognizes all legally married couples [straight and gay].”
Most Principia students and alumni who posted on various Internet pages showed their surprise and gratitude. One of the early announcements said, “We’re happy to announce that the homosexuality ban at Principia College has been lifted! All of your efforts pushed toward this major shift in Principia culture. Thank you for your support from all over the United States and abroad.”
Other comments also emphasized gratitude.
“Thanks board of trustees, and all those who helped make this happen. Now I can attend my next reunion with renewed faith in all that Principia stands for.”
“Thank you board. Nice to have you in the 21st Century.”
“Just made my first donation in honor of several friends who suffered the hands of the policy. So glad it’s at an end and equality is finally at Prin. Never been so proud to make a donation!”
The new policy is effective immediately.
