Finding Hope in a Christian Science Reading Room – A Valentines Day Story of Unconditional Love – Daily Bread – 02/14/2014

Mrs. Eddy said: “Be patient towards persecution. Injustice has not a tithe of the power of justice.” And she adds: “Continue steadfast in love and good works. Children of light, you are not children of darkness. Let your light shine. Keep in mind the foundations of Christian Science—one God and one Christ.”

 Mary Baker Eddy

For what it may be worth to you – I am a Journal listed CS practitioner, When my son, my only child, came out as gay a number of years ago, I did not ask God to change him; I asked God to change me – to open my eyes and heart wide enough to not lose sight of all that really matters and to all that is real and true about my son as His whole and holy ideal. So I have always been free to happily love my son with all my heart, And he loves me, too.

There must never be a time when a Christian Scientist can be accused of prejudice, bigotry, discrimination, or hate.

I recently had the opportunity to share the Truth with a homeless young man who came into our Reading Room. He was very bright and well-read in the Bible. He was seeking out some help in interpreting various passages as he was looking for whether the Bible was condemning him for being gay. I felt so sincerely grateful that I was there to share the true Christian Science perspective, the spiritual sense of man and of what the Bible teaches and what Jesus (and Mrs. Eddy) taught, and to assure him that God loved him exactly as he is, and he should neither be ashamed or feel that God would punish him. I saw such a gratitude on his face when he heard what he just as well as I KNEW to be the Truth. It was like a confirmation to his heart. We talked a long while and he taught me things as well. He called me an “angel” and while I know that I am not that at all, I also knew that in that moment God had placed us together to share the Love story of Life as it truly is. As he went to leave, I went over to him by the door and gave him a hug, which he received with a great amount of what felt almost like relief…and release of fear, I think.

I hope that he knows how much our exchange meant to me and how worthy and ready he is to claim his birthright of joy, peace, freedom in every way. I have not seen him again (I only volunteer a couple of days a month), but I hope that I do and I feel confident that the beautiful flame inside him has gained some strength after our conversation. Others working in the Reading Room with me seemed to feel I should have given him bunches of literature, but I didn’t feel led to do that. It seemed he just wanted to talk and to feel loved. He did ask about our church services and I gave him that information which we have on a card.

Anyway, in MY heart, I am dedicating the Daily Bread to my new friend as well as to Tyrone. (A Prayer for Tyrone – Daily Bread – 02/13/2014)

Love to all,
