A Prayer for Tyrone – Daily Bread – 02/13/2014

by | Feb 13, 2014

“Forgive us our debts and we forgive our debtors”.

Lord’s Prayer

“Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals.  In this perfect man the Saviour saw God’s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick”

 Mary Baker Eddy

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (pps. 476-477).

“In my earliest days on the streets, on a night when several disturbing-looking people ran up to me, I pulled myself together and thought, If Jesus came to me looking like this man, would I run? Or would I stand right where I am, face him, and embrace him? I forced myself to see Jesus in him every time I saw someone who scared me, and eventually I felt blessed, not frightened.  And the people who seemed so upsetting to me melted into kind people, who welcomed us into their world.  That vision worked for me.”

A Gift of Hope

Helping The Homeless

Our Daily Bread today is dedicated to Tyrone (last name withheld) in Chicago IL and anybody else struggling with a belief of homelessness.  This prayer includes our LGBT brothers and sisters as they make up a high percentage of the homeless population because many of them have been kicked out by their families for whom they love or how they define their gender.

I have spoken to Tyrone several times in Chicago as he sleeps outside an entrance way of an empty office building along a busy street in Chicago named Broadway.  He has been asked to leave by the local police several times in the past due to complaints from the building owner.  But he shared no animosity and stated the police have actually been good to him.

I learned from Danielle Steel’s work with the homeless to never ask what happened to get them there. So I started with the solution rather than the problem by seeing the perfect man as taught in Christian Science and demonstrated by Danielle Steel in her work with the homeless.  Even though Danielle Steel is no longer a student of Christian Science it is impossible to unknow the Truth.  Her writings are filled with the Christ message of finding hope and healing in the heart of darkness.

Tyrone and I  talked together about faith and spirituality yesterday. Tyrone stated he loves the writings and teachings of Christ but became disillusioned with the current so-called church leaders and all their hypocrisy.

Tyrone shared his love for the golden rule with me.  This was evidenced In a  past visit when I tried to give him a sandwich from the local store but he would not accept it unless he could give me something in return.  So I accepted a pepsi.

Tyrone was sober, watchful and vigilant.  I asked him what he desired from answered prayer.  He stated he desired a home, job and companionship.

We discussed together his relationship with God who is his Father-Mother and loved him unconditionally and referenced Psalm 139.  This psalm assures us that God is always with us and that we can never be separated from Him.  Tyrone responded that he would never want to be separated from God as he expressed relief to hear that.

We concluded our conversation yesterday with me gaining permission to pray for him.   After arriving home and sitting in my office I asked God for direction.  I prayey for Tyrone but when I woke up this morning I felt I should have devoted more time prayer to him and all those who are homeless.  Thus todays Daily Bread is dedicated to them.

We know God is not separate from the wisdom He bestows.

Truth, Wisdom, Love and Sincerity, to ALL mankind.

Feed My Sheep

Mary Baker Eddy

Hymn #304

Full Text

1. Shepherd, show me how to go O’er the hillside steep, How to gather, how to sow, How to feed Thy sheep. I will listen for Thy voice, Lest my footsteps stray; I will follow and rejoice All the rugged way.

2. Thou wilt bind the stubborn will, Wound the callous breast, Make self righteousness be still, Break earth’s stupid rest. Strangers on a barren shore, Laboring long and lone, We would enter by the door, And Thou knowest Thine own.

3. So, when day grows dark and cold, Tear or triumph harms, Lead Thy lambkins to the fold, Take them in Thine arms. Feed the hungry, heal the heart, Till the morning’s beam; White as wool, ’ere they depart, Shepherd, wash them clean.
